Pay attention.

Be astonished.

Tell about it.

HELLO

My name is Kari Pearson (she/her), I’m an artist and writer from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

THE ART OF BEING

Creativity is a way of being, and everyday life is an art form. As a visual storyteller, I use words and images to make meaning, but art is also how I like to approach the world: with curiosity, color, and play.

CREATIVE PRACTICE

My creative practice is interdisciplinary, which is just a fancy way of saying I use lots of different materials and formats. In general, my work falls into two categories: words and pictures.

WORDS

Language is a huge part of my life. I start most days by writing, journaling first to gather my thoughts, then spinning some of those thoughts into formats that can travel, like essays or (work-in-progress) books. I also study foreign languages (currently: Swedish), and read lots of nonfiction.

PICTURES

I love to draw, and you will often find me sketching, especially at the zoo, a concert, or even in line. Sometimes those sketches get turned into finished art, either to go with something I’ve written, or as a standalone piece. I love painting, bright color, graphic design, public art, and typography. I also take tons of photos, which form a kind of visual journal that I use for inspiration in my work.

SAY HI

Thanks so much for stopping by! Feel free to drop me a line, I’d love to hear  from you.
